T by Alexander Wang Spring 2012 Campaign Featuring Die Antwoord

Yesterday, I presented the crazy new music video by South African hip-hop band Die Antwoord for their song ‘I Fink U Freeky’ and today Alexander Wang unveiled his new T by Alexander Wang campaign featuring the band.
Not only were they included into the print campaign, but they also play a major role in the video that was released along with the campaign.
“His T by Alexander Wang campaign was shot by Dan Jackson, and ubercool South African hip-hop band Die Antwoord was flown in to appear in the images and two videos; a behind-the-scenes clip and the official campaign with “Fatty Boom Boom” from Die Antwoord’s new album “Ten$ion” playing. Later this month, MTV will put both videos in rotation on “120 Minutes.” “I am part of a generation that grew up with MTV, and obviously with music, and having it all work together made it a really fun project,” Wang said.” (Via WWD)

Hoorey! for Lana Del Rey

A more interesting challenge to the challenge of being a female singer in the Year of Our Lord 2012 is being mustered by Lizzy Grant, whose debut CD as Lana Del Rey, Born to Die, comes out this month. Like Florence Welch, she has red hair, though she was once blond. Indeed, in her first single as Lana Del Rey, 2010's "Gramma," she confesses to her grandmother what sets her apart: first, that she's pretty, and second, that she wants to be "the whole world's girl." She's as ambitious as Gaga herself and about as authentic; though almost freakishly beautiful, she looks like the spawn of a postoperative Nicole Kidman; and her lips — not just plumped, Bratz-style, but flat, as if she's pressing them against a window — are already more famous on the Internet than her music.

And yet it's her music that makes her interesting, because almost alone of the women who've made a conscious choice to sing from the impersonal vantage of celebrity, she uses the impersonal vantage of celebrity to make music that's personal in the extreme. Her voice is not agile and overwhelming like Florence Welch's; nor is it as aerobic as BeyoncĂ©'s or Gaga's; nor is it desultory and small, with a dollop of cuteness, like Feist's or St. Vincent's. It's low and dark, with a threatened upper register that conveys rather than sheds its emotional burdens. It makes whatever she's singing sound a little like the songs David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti wrote for Julee Cruise back in the Twin Peaks days, but those songs were about the atmospherics, and Lizzy Grant's are about whatever led her to create the entity known as Lana Del Rey. It's a different kind of becoming, at once mysterious and transparent, and if you want to see it in motion, go to YouTube and compare an early performance of "Born to Die" with a recent one at, yes, the Chateau Marmont. In the first, she's wearing a white dress that's too tight and too short, and she starts the song the way she does on the record, with a breathy wink-and-titter "Who me?" In the second, she's representing a high-end fashion house, and she's singing to a crowd that supposedly includes the likes of Kate Bosworth and Juno Temple. Pretty girls all, they no doubt thought that this pretty girl was singing about them; but really she was singing about herself, for herself, with a name that no real human being has ever had, and a fat lip that, for one moment at least, she seemed to have come by honestly.

I Fink U Freeky by Die Antwoord

This video for Die Antwoord’s ‘I Fink U Freeky’ is pretty mind-blowing. The duo got together with the amazing Roger Ballen and the end result is a brilliant intersection of music and art. This is a must watch whether your’re a fan of the group or not.

Produced with a premium suede calf leather upper, the boat shoe style sneaker comes with a removable inner sock, hand stitched vamp and rubber outer sole. The silhouette reminds us of some older visvim styles and certainly mashes up more than one popular sneaker style. It comes in two colorways and is now available from Louis Vuitton stores.

Always Finish Strong

Now all you need to look fresh are a few final touches. Think of these as the new dirty dozen: twelve tweaks for 2012 that will make your wardrobe looks new!

Read More GQ

1. Score a Hat Trick
You're already swagger-jacking your grandfather's sweaters. Try dressing down your ultramodern suit by donning his fishing hat, too.

2. Color your Money
3. Take the Belt Way
Wallets are always black or brown. Why? That's what people will wonder when you pull out your green-wrapped greenbacks.

It doesn't look like much on the rack at the army-navy, but when you put a black webbed belt in a more stylish context, you won't miss your leathers.

4. Start a Chain Reaction
Think of it as anti-bling. You want it matte, not shiny. And it should be long enough to hang below your tee's neckline.

5. Be a Band Apart
Yin and yang, dude: Take a fancy watch, match it with a sporty strap, and be prepared to turn heads.

6. Follow the Yellow Brick Road
7. Cause a Dust Up

If you've been keeping up with your GQ in recent months, you know suede bucks with F-you soles have become a favorite.

We're all about the dusty palette this year—pastel colors that have been walked down a dirt road.

 8. Split your Ends
You want to look put-together, not like you spent too much time at the mirror obsessing. A frayed pocket square throws it away a little.

9. Expand your Portfolio
We like to think of this as business on your body, party in your hand.

10. Fix you Weave
Wool knit ties are for winter. Grab a paper-thin silk version to complement your cotton suits.
11. A Higher  Bar
12. Key it in

Color is king this season, but if you're hesitant, here's a subtle, affordable place to start: These tie bars, in four off-the-wall tones, cost fifteen bucks each.
Fact: No matter what shape your schnoz, you'll look good in shades with this ultra-forgiving keyhole nose bridge. Persol brought them back; now tons of designers are in on the action.

Your New Sunglasses

A new spin on a classic frame, this Alain Mikli and Subcrew collaboration — the "MR. SAY" pair of shades — is both classic and novel in way that won't have you disappating into the everyday. They are the sort of sunglasses that will make you stand out a little, turning you into style leader rather than a trend-follower.

More details at Hypebeast

French eyewear designer Alain Mikli continues to establish a strong presence within the Asian market with its latest collaborative project for an early 2012 release. Building upon the past projects with Hong Kong’s Subcrew, the latest venture sees the inclusion of Jay Chou’s retail store PHANTACi to release a new style of sunglasses, branded the “MR. SAY.” Combining the label’s like-minded mentalities, the result is a minimalist pair of black-framed sunglasses that reflect the understated style preferences of the label’s founders.

5 New Trends

This was a newer, darker, more sober season — one full of the blue-blacks (definitely the new color for now), and plenty of leather and metal detailing on clothes and accessories that will suit you much better for work than they will for a weekend lounging with your friends.

The New Color: Blue-Black

In a season that can be explained, in one word, as "dark," the carry-over color from spring — blue — was seen throughout nearly every collection, in both sportswear and suiting. This time, though, there was nothing oceanic about it. Instead, designers relied on an inky shade that was darker than navy but not quite noir, as shown here at Paul Smith (left) and Corneliani (right).

The New Texture: Natural

While shearling has been around for quite a few seasons now, Milan and Paris showed many wild coats that had the sheep's fleece practically herding itself out of giant collars on coats (at Lanvin, above left). And, on a more controversial note, other collections — like Prada (right) and Salvatore Ferragamo, used astrakhan fur for their statement outerwear — known also as Persian Lamb, it's made from the pelts of newborn lambs.

The New Accent: Leather

With futuristic, almost Matrix-like looks becoming prominent in the dark runways of Europe, it's no surprise that leather — mostly in inky shades of black — was a go-to textile for outerwear, sleek jacket details, and even the sort of pants that many men would be wise to avoid. And, while wearing a head-to-toe leather suit might not ever fly at your office (Hermès, right), the YSL jacket (left) and other pieces from the shows are a good reminder that, next time you want to wear cowhide, you can branch out past your usual motorcycle or bomber jacket.

The New Shoe: Metal-Detailed

After seeing some nice steel-toe-effect Grenson shoes at Pitti Uomo, it was cool to see many designers — like Costume National (left) and Louis Vuitton (right) — actually adding metallic accents to the toes and heels of their new pairs for Fall/Winter 2012. Others, like Dries van Noten, even added horse bits to the back of their brogues — take that, Gucci — suggesting that last spring's colored soles have made way for a silver-tinged season ahead.

The New Outfit: Playfully Tailored

Suits took a dominant role on the runways this season, pushing sportswear aside for city-ready looks that seemed to suggest men should throw away their denim entirely next fall. But, these weren't traditional looks with Wall Street-standard topcoats over them: Instead, designers like Christopher Bailey at Burberry (left) and Umit Benan, newly installed at Trussardi (right), experimented with both cropped and oversized outerwear silhouettes, all which made their jauntily-cut suits all the more fresh for a new season ahead. Everything's perfectly cut, sure, even if offered in a silhouette you've never worn before.

Spring/Summer 2012 Lookbook (uniform experiment)

Blue is the signature color of the season, found on shirting, t-shirts, knitwear, pants and even accessories. Lots of stripes, check patterns and dip dye effects are used in the collection, giving classic pieces a new modern touch. Collaborations with Clarks and others are also part of the line.

The collection film can be seen here below.
